Not all browsers are created equal. Once a person gets a computer and a browser, they may keep it for a long time. A contemporary website should work well on all the major browsers - Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Firefox 2 and 3, Safari 3, Chrome 1, and Opera 9.

Increasingly, browsers are becoming more standardized and more focused on actual web standards rather than proprietary gadgets. There are still some wrinkles, and there are a lot of older computers still working for their owners, using outdated non-compliant browsers.

In the face of this, web designers (and website owners) face an economic decision about what browsers they will support.

Our practice is to build websites that are cross-browser compatible, across both the most current set of browsers, and also across the previous generation of browsers. They may not look exactly the same in each browser, but they will work equally well across all browsers. This provides a widely usable website without incurring costs over small market segments.
