packing list for self-contained bicycle trips

Bike Trip Packing List

I have these thoughts about bike trips:
  • You should train/practise with your bike rigged the way you're going to ride it- panniers, gadgets, whatever.
Two weeks before your ride, get your bike right and avoid changing things.
  • Each rider should have all the rider's home and cellphone numbers.
  • The quality of your day's ride is contingent on the previous night's sleep
  • There's always some surprise- a mudslide, a trench, etc-- and that's okay.
  • I think that at the end of a day, the priorities are:
    • eat carbs within 15 minutes to restore glycogen
    • get out of the shorts
    • get out of those socks
    • get your wet clothing started drying
    • clean off your chain
